Laramie All-Stars Play Key Games at District Tournament
One Laramie All-Star team remains unbeaten, while the other suffered their first loss at the Little League District Tournament in Torrington.
The Laramie 9-10 All-Stars completed round robin play with a 3-0 record.
They beat Gillette National 5-3 Tuesday. Laramie had only four hits, but took advantage of seven walks, as well as wild pitches and passed balls.
They followed that game with a 17-3 victory over Gillette American Wednesday afternoon. The 9-10’s led 14-0 before Gillette American scored. Laramie scored 10 in the first and four in the second. Kaige Schriner led the way with two triples and four RBI’s. Grant Vigen was the winning pitcher.
The single biggest game of the District Tournament for the 9-10 All-Stars is tonight. Laramie is the top seed and must beat fourth seed Gillette American for second straight day in order to qualify for next week’s state tournament. Game time is at 7 p.m.
The Laramie 11-12 All-Stars have split their games over the last two days.
They blew out Newcastle 15-2 Tuesday. Mahlon Morris had three hits, including a double and home run, plus five RBI’s. Brandon Chavez added a home run and a double and drove in four runs. Laramie scored seven times in both the second and third innings. Billy Jenkin got the win on the mound.
Last night, Laramie lost to Gillette 13-2. A seven-run fourth inning broke it open for Gillette. The 11-12’s were held to four hits, which included solo home runs by Jaedyn Brown and Chavez. Brown finished with two of the four hits. Morris was the losing pitcher.
Laramie faces elimination today. They will play Torrington in a loser out game at 1 p.m. If the Laramie 11-12 All-Stars win that game, they will advance to the state tournament next week and face Gillette in the District championship Friday.
