The Laramie High School sports weekend saw an individual golf victory and a pair of sweeps by the tennis and girls’ swimming teams.

Senior Jackson McClaren tied for first place at the 4A West Qualifier in Evanston last Thursday and Friday. He shot rounds of 75 and 76 for a two-day total of 151 or seven-over-par at Purple Sage Golf Course. McClaren tied with Sam Young of Rock Springs for the medalist honor.

As a team, the Plainsmen placed fourth with a two-day total of 689 or plus-113.

Samantha Kitchen led the LHS girls, as she tied for tenth place. Kitchen shot a 199 over the two rounds or 55-over-par. The Laramie Lady Plainsmen also took fourth place as a team with a total of 635 or plus-203.

Laramie heads to Jackson this weekend for the 4A State Golf Championship.

Laramie Tennis

Both teams won their regular-season finale at Torrington last Friday.

The Lady Plainsmen swept the Trailblazers, 5-0. The Plainsmen posted a 4-1 victory, which allowed them to tie with Cheyenne Central and Green River for the conference regular-season title.

Post-season tennis has arrived with the regional tournament in Cheyenne on Friday and Saturday.

Laramie Cross Country

Laramie took part in the Chief Nation Invitational in Ethete, WY last Saturday. It was a preview of the course where the state championships will be run next month.

The Plainsmen placed third behind Sheridan and Natrona County. They scored 122 as a team. Dominic Eberle was the top individual finisher in eighth place. He ran the course in 17:03.01.

The Laramie girls ended in fourth place in the team standings. They scored 135 points to place behind Cody, Natrona County, and Sheridan. Addie Forry led the way in seventh place. Her time on the course was 20.37.66.

Laramie will race in Rawlins on Friday.

Laramie Girls’ Swimming & Diving

It was another perfect weekend in the pool for LHS. Laramie won all five of their duals at home, as part of the Cheyenne Invite Duals.

The Lady Plainsmen defeated Sheridan, 102-72, and Evanston, 119-50, on Friday. Laramie won nine events overall. Anna Roesler (50 freestyle, 500 freestyle) and Kayley Yother (IM, Backstroke) won two events apiece.

On Saturday, LHS beat three opponents. They defeated Kelly Walsh, 119-63, Cheyenne Central, 110-74, and Campbell County, 103-76. LHS won only three events. Roesler captured two, the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Natalie Six won diving.

Laramie remains undefeated for the season. They head to Jackson for a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday.

Laramie Volleyball

The Laramie Lady Plainsmen volleyball team had the weekend off. They return to the court at No. 3 Cheyenne East on Thursday at 6 p.m. and will host Cheyenne Central on Friday, also at 6 p.m.
