Laramie Plainsmen Take on Central in Homecoming Tilt [VIDEO]
For the first time this season, the Laramie Plainsmen will be at the friendly confines of Deti Stadium. LHS takes on the Cheyenne Central Indians in their home opener, as well as for the Homecoming game. Both teams are 0-2 in the 2024 season. Laramie seeks its first win over the Indians in six years. The game starts at 6 p.m.
LARAMIE PLAINSMEN FOOTBALL PLAYS ITS 2024 HOME OPENER
The Plainsmen lost to the Kelly Walsh Trojans, 34-14, last Friday night in Casper. Laramie gave up over 200 yards rushing to the Trojans and could not move the ball on offense. It took until the game's last four minutes for LHS to get their first first-down of the night. They finished with only 93 yards of total offense.
Cheyenne Central has lost their first two games by a combined nine points. They fell at Rock Springs in Week 0, 23-16. Last week, in their home opener, the Indians lost to Campbell County, 21-19.
The Plainsmen enter the game ninth in total offense at 134 yards per game and tenth in total defense at 362 yards per game. They are averaging only 10 points per game and allowing 35.5 points per game. Cheyenne Central has the No. 4 offense at 266 yards per game. They are No. 2 in passing at 177 yards per game behind junior QB Lane Clement. His top targets are Tate Berry and Nate Brenchley. Defensively, the Indians give up 282 yards per game, which is No. 8 in Class 4A.
Laramie Player Spotlight
Two bright spots for Laramie have been the play of seniors Will Brinegar and Noah Kirsch on defense. Both are in the top ten in defensive points in Class 4A. Brinegar is No. 2 at 19.5 points per game, while Kirsch is No. 9 at 15 defensive points per game. Friday night marks the 140th game in the series between the two schools. It is the second-oldest rivalry in football for the Plainsmen. Central leads the all-time series, 71-62-6, and the Indians have won five in a row.
