CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency will start sending checks to Wyoming this week to help pay for costs associated with this year’s flooding.

Charles Dugger of FEMA says the agency is nearly finished with reviewing applications from local and state governments for help from the agency.

Dugger says so far FEMA has tallied about $6 million in flood related costs, including sandbagging and other efforts. The federal government will cover 75 percent of that.

Dugger says Wyoming avoided a lot of damage by being proactive in its flood fight.

Flooding this spring and summer from record snowpack and rain caused millions of dollars in damage to farms, roads and bridges. At least eight people died in high-water incidents around the state, and the state was declared a major disaster.
