The stairs on both sides of the downtown walking bridge are closed for winter starting today, November 16.

A press release from the city noted that several city staff members and residents have been injured on the steps. The release also noted that while the city removes snow from the steps as quickly as possible, the stair treads pose a hazard due to ice buildup. The stairs will reopen as weather conditions allow.

The bridge itself remains open, and is still accessible through the ramps located on the east and west ends of the bridge.
