Coming off a road split last weekend the Wyoming Cowgirls are back on the home pitch for a soccer match versus Utah Valley Friday.

Wyoming (3-2-1) lost last Friday to UTEP in El Paso by a final score of 2-0. The Cowgirls out-shot the Miners, but UTEP got goals in the 47th and 73rd minutes. UW finished with 21 shots compared to 11 for the Miners.

The Cowgirls regrouped and rolled past New Mexico State last Sunday in Las Cruces, NM, 4-1. That was a season-high in goals for Wyoming.

Junior Shaina Ashouri scored on a free-kick in the 12th minute. The Aggies tied it in the 25th. Freshmen Michaela Stark tallied in the 42nd minute, and that gave UW the lead for good. Senior Anne Hinman found the back of the net in the 72nd minute. Senior Katie Marcheso tallied her third goal of the year in the 81st for the final margin.

Wyoming out-shot New Mexico State 23-11, and that included ten shots on goal versus two for their opponent.

Utah Valley will come to Laramie Friday afternoon with a 4-1 record. The Wolverines have won their last three matches. They return eight starters from their NCAA Tournament team from last season.

In a release from the University of Wyoming, head coach Pete Cuadrado said, “Utah Valley is a good team. They just knocked off UNLV so we know we have our hands full. We face them at home, which is a benefit to us, but they play good soccer and move the ball well so it’ll be a good challenge for us.”

The Cowgirls are playing their final non-conference home match. They haven’t dropped a non-league match at home since Sept. 22, 2013. UW has gone 6-0-1 in its last seven on the home pitch.

Kick-off is slated for 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
