Chuck Kern Named Boys Basketball Coach at Laramie High School
Chuck Kern has been chosen to take over the boys basketball program at Laramie High School.
He coached the sophomore team at LHS for the past four seasons. Kern grew up in Gillette and was previously a head coach in Kansas. LHS Athletic Director Jeff Lewis said Kern's experience coaching and knowledge of the game helped tip the scales in his favor, in addition to the rapport he has with the kids.
"We're just really, really excited to be able to have Chuck in that position and I think we're going to be very successful," said Lewis.
The decision was made final during a school board meeting on Wednesday, August 8. Three candidates were interviewed for the job after Jason Mountain resigned to coach at the collegiate level.
"I think Coach Kern and his staff will take the Plainsmen Program into a wonderful direction," said Mountain of his successor. "I don't know of a better coach at building relationships and positive rapport with his players than Coach Kern. I think the program has a bright future, full of potential, and I know Coach Kern will have the Plainsmen playing the right way, valuing the right things, and bringing honor, discipline, and success to Laramie High School and the Laramie community. I wish Coach Kern, Coach Schmidt, Coach Hiser, their new staff and the team all the best next season and in years to come. Go Plainsmen!"
