University of Wyoming senior bareback rider Wyatt Clark took fifth place at the College National Finals Rodeo that concluded last Saturday in Casper.

Clark was successful on each of his rides over three rounds on competition. After a pair of 73.5 scores, he posted a 77.5 and qualified for the championship round.

He was number 11 out of 12 that got in for the short go. His ride on a horse named “Rooster” earned another score of 77.5. That gave him the lead until the final four riders. They all posted qualified rides and had enough points that Clark finished fifth.

His total of 301.5 points in the average wasn’t that far behind the eventual champions 315.5 points on four rides.

The Wyoming Cowboys had one other team member compete in last Saturday’s final round. Team roper Brit Ellerman, and his partner, Gillette College’s Seth Andersen, had qualified after their three rounds earlier in the week. The championship round turned out to be tough, as Ellerman and his partner took a no time.

As a team, the Cowboys finished in a tie for 22nd place with 200 points.
