Wyoming’s Wingard Receives AP Preseason All-America Honor
University of Wyoming senior safety Andrew Wingard named to the 2018 Associated Press Preseason All-America Second Team Tuesday.
Wingard is one of only three Group of Five players on either the first or second team. Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver is on the first team, while Buffalo wide receiver Anthony Johnson joined Wingard on the second team.
The two-time First Team All-Mountain West honoree, Wingard was selected as the MW Defensive Preseason Player of the Year last month and for the second consecutive year. He’s also part of three preseason watch lists for the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, the Bronko Nagurski Award, and the Chuck Bednarik Award.
Wingard is third among all active Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players in total career tackles with an average of 9.41 per game. He ranks second among active FBS players in career solo tackles per game at 5.85.
