Wyoming’s Sabastian Harsh to miss 2022 season with injury

LARAMIE -- Craig Bohl was hopeful Sabastian Harsh would play again this season after suffering an undisclosed injury before the Cowboys' Zero-Week opener at Illinois.

Wyoming's ninth-year head coach Monday delivered the news that the sophomore defensive end will miss the entire 2022 campaign.

"Sabastian is going to be gone for the year, unfortunately," Bohl said. "(He's) not only a great young man, but a really good player. So, he's going to have some surgery, so he'll be done."

Bohl also said running back Titus Swen is dealing with some bruised ribs he sustained in Wyoming's 38-6 setback at Illinois. The junior from Fort Worth rushed for 98 yards on just 17 carries in the loss to the Illini.

"Titus is going to be day to day," Bohl said. "But, you know, the doctor did clear him. You know, he's got some bruised ribs and the extent of that is going to be on how significant that is. So we'll play that as we go."

Fellow back Dawaiian McNeely missed the opener with an undisclosed injury, but Bohl said there's a chance he could play Saturday when Tulsa comes to Laramie for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.

"It's somewhat doubtful, but he may be able to play," Bohl said.

Harsh, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 237, was the talk of the spring and fall. Every time Bohl stood behind the podium, he mentioned the Scottsbluff, Neb., product.

Harsh appeared in all 13 games for the Cowboys last fall, recording seven tackles, including five solo stops. Most of those came on kick coverage.

Oluwaseyi Omotosho and DeVonne Harris were the Cowboys' starting defensive ends in Champaign. Braden Siders served as the lone reserve in both spots after the loss of Harsh. Alabama transfer Keelan Cox is also out after suffering a fractured hip in fall camp.

Harris finished with six stops against the Fighting Illini and Omotosho and Siders each had three tackles.
