Wyoming's Graham Ike named MW Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., -- Graham Ike made this look way too easy.

The Wyoming Cowboys picked up another Mountain West Player of the Week honor on Monday, with the freshman forward garnering the award for the second time this season.

It marks back-to-back weeks a Cowboy has earned this honor.

Hunter Maldonado did so last week after torching Border War rival Colorado State for a career-high 35 points in an 84-78 overtime victory over the Rams. The Cowboys point guard added 16 points and seven assists in a win over Boise State. Maldonado was also named the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week.

It is the first time since the 2002-03 season that Wyoming has won the award in back-to-back weeks. Donta Richardson and Jay Straight pulled off that feat.

Ike, a native of Aurora, Colo., averaged 26.5 points per game and added 15 rebounds per night, as the Cowboys are currently in first place in the Mountain West Conference. He also added two assists per game and recorded a double-double in both contests.

Against Utah State, Ike added 28 points and 12 rebounds going 10-of-17 from the field. He recorded 25 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds against San Jose State.

It was the most rebounds in a game since Justin James recorded 20 against Evansville on Nov. 28, 2018. He scored 36 of his points for the week in the second half of the two contests.

Monday, Wyoming cracked the Associated Press Top 25, coming in at 22 in the national polls. The last time the Cowboys were ranked that high was in 1988.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert Gagliardi, Jared Newland, Ryan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.
