University of Wyoming head volleyball coach Carrie Yerty announced Friday the hiring of Vilis Ozols as an assistant coach with the Cowgirl Volleyball program. Ozols replaced Tony Suñga who became the head coach at his alma mater, Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ozols comes to Wyoming from the University of Colorado where he spent last season as an Assistant Coach with the Buffs. He has an extensive background in the sport of volleyball which includes coaching at Denver's Mullen High School where he led them to top-ten state finishes in each of his four years. He also coached several club and All-Star teams, which helped him earn a Canadian National Championship. As a player Ozols was a three-time conference player of the year at the University of Guelph in Canada, a former Canadian Jr. National Volleyball Team member, a First Team All-Canadian selection and a former competitor on the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. If you want to see more of his awesomeness, visit the website for the Ozols Business Group of which he is founder and president, because he's a motivational international business speaker.  The volleyball page here is pretty sweet, it mentions Ozols' 43 inch vertical at the very bottom.

I am very excited to join Coach Yerty and the Wyoming volleyball program. I have high expectations for what will be accomplished here and I am looking forward to contributing in as many ways as possible to that success on the court, in the classroom and in the Wyoming community.
-Vilis Ozols

Yerty's squad is coming off a 22-10 season, but they went only 7-9 in Mountain West Conference play. They lose four seniors but will have 10 returning letterwinners, 4 newcomers and 2 redshirts to help fill in the holes. The Cowgirls will be led by All-MWC selection Jodi Purdy. The junior outside hitter led the Cowgirls last year in kills, aces and total points.
