Wyoming Territorial Prison to Host Statehood Celebration Tuesday
Laramie is gearing up for Jubilee Days next week and among the first events for Laramie residents to enjoy is the 6th annual Wyoming statehood celebration on Tuesday, July 10 at the Wyoming Territorial Prison.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include a host of family activities.
Wyoming State Territorial Prison Superintendent Deborah Amend says the celebration will begin with at 11 a.m. with the posting of the colors and a presentation from Miss Laramie Jubilee 2018 and her court. A free hot dog lunch for the first 700 people will begin at 11:10 a.m. There will also be free birthday cake.
Amend says fun activities throughout the day include rope tricks by Craig Ingram at 1 p.m., a money scramble, rain gutter boat races and an opportunity for kids to drive a tractor.
Amend said a new, science-focused activity is “Bubbleology,” where kids can make and learn about the science behind bubbles.
“It’s just a fun afternoon for the community and there is no cost or admission,” Amend said.
Amend says there will also be prison tours and vintage cars on display.
