Wyoming ranks the highest in the nation for having financially beneficial, post high-school technical certificates. Washington D.C. based nonprofit group Complete College America documented in a report that Wyoming has the highest number of residents earning a type of long-term technical certificates that tend to provide career boosts and a higher pay.  Short or long-term certificates generally take one year to finish.  The report studied the effects on a graduate earning power in a related field and found the greatest benefits came from completing long-term certificates. Long-term certificates allow students to receive post high school education as well as provide job training. In some cases students may later on complete an associates degree.  Laramie County Community College has a broad spectrum of programs that offer twenty-four different certificates. Subjects range from automotive technology to fire science technology and even nursing.  As of 2009, 86 percent of Wyoming participants continued on to complete a long-term certificate. The national average for long-term earners is 46.6 percent.
