There is an ever-present need for volunteer instructors to teach hunter education throughout Wyoming, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department is looking for persons 18 or older to fill those needs.

Wyoming Game and Fish Hunter Education Coordinator Jim Dawson says recruitment of new instructors to meet public demand is an ongoing task and demand for hunter education classes increases at the beginning of each year while the demand for classes in most Wyoming communities remains steady throughout the year.

While instructors are unpaid volunteers, Dawson says many have expressed satisfaction knowing they have helped enhance hunting traditions and values while promoting safe, responsible, and ethical practices.  Last year, more than 350 volunteers in Wyoming conducted 215 classes, certifying 4,972 young hunters.

Volunteer instructors come from many backgrounds including game wardens, professional educators and the general public.  For persons interested in becoming a volunteer instructor for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, call the Game and Fish Office in Cheyenne at (307) 777-4538, or call Jim Dawson at the Casper Game and Fish office at (307) 473-3439.
