Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies to Hold Laramie Food Distribution

The Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies plans to distribute food to Laramie families in need Friday, April 7^th.

The mobile pantry food distribution is being held in conjunction with the University of Wyoming organizational behavior and leadership class.

Tonja Funch, WFBR agency relations manager, said the event will address a particular need in Laramie, which does not have as many food pantries as other counties.

“Albany County is one of the counties where we do have a harder time getting food into the county because we don’t have as many pantries that we need,” Funch said. “So what we do is when we are not getting the poundage required by Feeding America, we put these mobile pantries together and get food up there so we can help people in need.”

The mobile pantry scheduled for Laramie was made possible by a grant for the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation. The WFBR plans to distribute 10,000 pounds of food, enough for 150 families.

The distribution items include fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, protein and other food and personal products from their distribution center.

Funch said anyone who needs a little help is welcome and participants will not need to provide financial information. Participants will be required to sign in, however, so they can be contacted in the event of a food recall.

The distribution will take place at the United Methodist Church at 1215 E. Gibbon Street and will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
