LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The wife of a former Laramie city councilor wants domestic abuse charges against him dropped.

In court documents filed last week, Manuela Hageman disputes the allegations against Joe Hageman and also criticizes police who responded to her home in May.

The Associated Press reports that Manuela Hageman said she never called the police for help and didn't ask anyone else to. She is a native German speaker and thinks a language barrier contributed to problems with police. She said they questioned her for hours in a way that was both confusing and manipulative.

Police have alleged that Joe Hageman, a lawyer, held a gun to his wife's head during a fight and said "Maybe I should kill you..."

He is waiting to be arraigned in district court.
