In this summer series, I’ll give you my take on which Pokes’ hoopster was the best ever to don each number. The criteria are simple: How did he perform at UW? What kind of impact did he have on the program?

No. 25 - REGGIE FOX

Guard, 1986-89, Baldwin, Mich.

Résumé in Laramie

* 97 games played at UW

* 11.4 points per game average

* One of 38 players to reach 1,000 career points

* Second in 3-point field goal percentage

* Two NCAA Tournament appearances (1986-87, 1987-88)

Why Fox?

Need a three?

You might want to draw up a play for this guy.

Reggie Fox, who transferred to Wyoming after averaging 19 points and six boards during his one season at Muskegon Community College in his native Michigan, stepped right in and became a key role player on a team loaded with talent.

You remember that team, right?

Fennis Dembo, Eric Leckner, Sean Dent. That 1986-87 squad rolled to a 24-10 regular-season record and won the WAC before taking down Virginia and No. 15 UCLA to advance to the Sweet 16. Fox averaged nearly nine points per game and connected on 43 triples.

The following season, the first under Benny Dees, the Cowboys once again went dancing. Fox's numbers got even better. Netting nearly 10 points an outing, the 6-foot-3 guard drilled 53 shots from deep.

March Madness was short lived for the Pokes, who fell to Loyola Marymount in a 119-115 barnburner.

Dembo was gone. So was Leckner and Dent. Robyn Davis was the new leader, and for one more season, he had a sidekick of his own.

Fox drained 69 3-pointers and averaged a career-high 16 points per game as the Cowboys stumbled to a 14-17 record.

Fox still ranks second in school history in 3-point field goal percentage at .407. He hit 165 of his 405 attempts. Only Sean Oggiri was more efficient in that category. He connected on .422 of his shots from beyond the arc. Fox is still seventh all-time in 3-pointers made with 165.

After the 1989 campaign, Fox was drafted by the Grand Rapids Hoops of the CBA. He played six professional seasons with four different franchises before heading overseas. Fox is now a basketball coach and holds camps around the country.

Honorable mention

Luke Martinez (2011-13) drilled 7-of-9 attempts from deep in a 71-51 rout of South Dakota during the 2012 season. That performance still ranks fifth all-time for the number of threes made in a game.

Martinez also owns the seventh-best single season in program history after sinking 81 triples during the 2011-12 season. He is also ranked fourth with an average of 1.8 steals per game.

Martinez averaged 12.5 points per outing during his two seasons in Laramie.
