A crash 29 miles west of Laramie on September 4 resulted in the 102nd fatality on Wyoming roads and highways this year.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:50 a.m. at mile marker 281.4 in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80. At that time, a 2008 Dodge Durango driven by 21-year-old Carrie M. Tarver, who had fallen asleep at the wheel, left the roadway into the median and struck a delineator post. Carrie Tarver awoke and attempted to steer the vehicle to the right and back onto the road. This caused the Durango to enter a clockwise rotation and roll multiple times.

As the vehicle rolled, 23-year-old Thomas M. Tarver of Silverdale, Washington, who was asleep in the back seat and unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

Carrie Tarver and an infant child passenger were both properly restrained at the time of the crash. Both Carrie Tarver and the infant were transported to Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie for treatment.

Carrie Tarver has been cited for failing to maintain a single lane of travel. Driver fatigue is being investigated as the contributing factor in the crash.
