UW's SAFE RIDE program is putting the brakes on drunk driving in Laramie. The University of Wyoming's Safe Ride organization has received recognition for its efforts to limit drunk driving in Laramie. The organization recently received the Saving Lives Award from the Governor's Council and special commendations, highlighting the program's outstanding humanitarian service to the community, from The Laramie Area Chamber of Commerce. Transit & Parking Assistant Manager, Liz Whitt, who manages the program stated: "It's all about the volunteers."

Safe Ride offers free rides home to anyone within Laramie city limits each Thursday through Saturday, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. So far this fall, the program has averaged 319 rides per night.
