WASHINGTON (AP) — Expect lots of people to be on the roads again this year-end holiday season.

AAA projects that nearly 30 percent of Americans, some 94.5 million people, will be traveling 50 miles or more from home sometime between Saturday, December 21 and Wednesday, January 1. More than 90 percent of those travelers will be driving.

Those numbers are all higher than last year, marking the fifth straight year that travel volume has increased.

One area expected to see a decrease is air travel. AAA projects a slight drop to a little more than 5.5 million travelers.

AAA's CEO Marshall Doney says travel is consistently heavy during the year-end holiday season, with Americans refusing to let economic conditions dictate their plans to celebrate the holidays.

AAA says gas prices are likely to be lower than last year.
