Train enthusiasts will get a rare treat as two Union Pacific steam engines will be passing through Laramie May 4 and again May 17-19.

Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 and Northern No. 844 are on their way to Utah for the railroad’s 150th-anniversary celebration at Promontory Point.

Charles Van Heule of the Historic Laramie Railroad Depot Association spoke with host David Settle during the “Laramie Live on KOWB” radio morning show Thursday. He talked about the engines, this rare opportunity, especially to see both together, and all that’s going on with the reception May 4 in the video above.

Here’s the schedule for May 4. There will be activities, like tours, offered from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Laramie Train Depot. Both engines will be part of one train that arrives Saturday, May 4 at 12:30 p.m. and departs at 1:15 p.m. The engines will return and spend more time in Laramie from midday May 17 through an early morning departure to Cheyenne on May 19.

Food trucks and other vendors will be in the train depot area for the celebration. For more information visit, www.laramiedepot.org, or call 307-745-4195.

No. 844 was originally scheduled to come through Laramie last weekend, April 27, but that was canceled for a few reasons.
