Items that have been found at the University of Wyoming campus will be sold at an auction on September 2.

The annual University of Wyoming Police Department found property auction will begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2 and will take place at the UWPD parking lot located at 1426 Flint Street. Those interested can begin viewing items at 3 p.m.

UW Police Chief Mike Samp says the auction has taken place annually for at least 30 years, and is a way to return lost items to the public. Anything that has not been claimed will be sold.

Samp says a large variety of items are for sale this year, including clothing, textbooks, electronics, calculators, flash drives, sporting goods, bicycles, and more.

Bicycles are one of the big draws to the auction.

“Usually we accumulate somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 to 150 bicycles on an annual basis that are abandoned on UW property,” says Samp. “We have a registration option. In the event that they are registered, we are able to return them to the owners, but if they are not registered and we can’t prove ownership, then they are sold at auction.”

Samp says that any bikes that go unpurchased will be donated to Cathedral Home and a high school mountain bike group.

Cash and check are the only accepted forms of payment at the auction.

Funds are put into an account to help support the lost and found collection process at the University of Wyoming.
