University of Wyoming Collegiate Chorale Fall Concert
The University of Wyoming Collegiate Chorale will perform its fall concert tonight at 7:30 p.m. inside the concert hall of the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts. The performance will feature the world premiere of acclaimed conductor-composer Gerard Schwarz’s work “The Human Spirit.”
According to the chorale’s director, UW Department of Music associate professor Nicole Lamartine, Schwarz asked that the work be performed by the UW Collegiate Chorale when he was on campus in 2014 as Eminent Artist.
Lamartine says that the work “reflects on a quotation from composer Aaron Copland that music sustains the human spirit and gives it expressive meaning.”
The chorale will be joined by violinist Josiah Baker in performing “The Nightingale,” which is an adaptation of “The Bold Grenadier,” an English folk song. The program includes other pieces such as “O Magnum Mysterium” and an 18th century motet. The evening will wrap up with Jake Runestad’s “Nyon.”
Tickets are $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens, and $6 for students. They can be purchased from the Performing Arts box office by calling 766-6666, online at the Fine Arts website, or at the door on the evening of the concert.
The Collegiate Chorale, as the premiere choral ensemble at the University of Wyoming, is made up of 28 campus vocalists. In addition to singing in Laramie, they have performed at regional conferences of the National Association for Music Directors and the National Collegiate Choral Organization.
