The University of Wyoming’s nationally recognized Nordic ski team will hold its annual “Trash 2 Treasure” (T2T) fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the west end of Fraternity Mall.

T2T is a community initiative to keep furniture and appliances out of the Laramie landfill, says UW Nordic co-head Coach Christi Boggs. During the summer, team members collected and cleaned donated items to be used for their fundraiser and community project.

“Hundreds of pounds of potential waste can be reused instead of added to the landfill,” Boggs says. “This provides an opportunity for individuals who care about the environment to donate items that are no longer wanted while, at the same time, provides these items at a low cost to incoming and returning students. We see this as an opportunity for everyone."

The UW Nordic ski team is a student-run RSO (Recognized Student Organization), with Boggs and Rachel Watson serving as volunteer coaches. The money earned will go toward race fees, ski wax, travel, lodging and food expenses throughout the season. Funds raised will help pay national dues and entry fees for the year-end United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association National Championships.

Event sponsors are the UW Nordic Ski Club, the UW Sustainability Club, UW SLCE (Service, Leadership and Community Engagement Office) and the Clothing Cottage.
