This morning, listeners of KOWB, AM 1290 were alarmed when a warning came across their radios.

Many thought they heard a tornado warning for Albany County and a widespread panic of natural disaster seemed to spread across Laramie and the KOWB listening area.

Just to clarify- there was not the threat of a tornado in Laramie or any of Albany County this morning, and what those listening heard was not a tornado warning. There was however, a test from the National Weather Service.

The planned test was done for Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wyoming, and in the broadcast from the NWS, the phrase "THIS IS A TEST" was used three times and the phrase "THIS MESSAGE IS FOR TEST PURPOSES ONLY" was used once.

Albany County is not currently in a tornado warning or a severe weather alert of any kind; once again, it was a test.
