Time For Elway To Go
I would happily argue that John Elway is one of the top 3 quarterbacks to ever touch a pigskin. He led the Broncos through The Drive, is a 9-time Pro Bowler, has brought us back-to-back Superbowl wins, and yes, he did bring us Peyton and Von Miller. However, since then our draft choices have been terrible. How could the arguably greatest QB in NFL history have so many QB draft choice busts? You know who I'm talking about: Paxton Lynch, Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler. It's painful just to think about. Which is why I believe the Elway ship has sailed.
Now, I'm not putting all the team's troubles on Elway. But after the Broncos scored on their first drive of last night's game, had a decent defensive stand against the Chiefs in back-to-back red zone appearances, and saw K.C. lose their superstar quarterback, we had the game in the bag. Right? No. The initial six points (because we went for two and didn't convert) we got during the drive were the only points we scored the entire game. I don't think we suffered from a lack of skill, but from a lack of heart, of initiative, the kind of motivation that a team needs to really engage in a competition. Well, motivation starts at the top, and John Elway is THE top.
We all felt the sting from last night; the stats were so abysmal: The O-line gave up 8 sacks. We fumbled three times. We only had 205 yards of total offense.
These are just some of the comments from my friends on social media last night after the game was through:
"I should've watched a horror movie instead of that damn nightmare. What a brutal season!"
"Love my Broncos but I can’t even say it was a good effort!! KC came to win a football game!"
"Falco sucks. Get him off the field!!!"
And finally, from my brother-in-law:
"I hate everything that is the Denver O-line, WR, TE, QB, FS, SS, LCB and coaching.... How have fans survived living in towns like Cleveland, New York, L.A., Houston, Miami and Minnesota? This crap is like sitting in the dentist chair partially numb while he begins to drill, but misses your tooth, hits your gum, it goes through your cheek, into your elbow through the chair, makes a u-turn and comes back up through your left (expletive) and into your eye."
Suffice to say, I think we could all use a little change. Between being our superstar QB and a few good years as GM, we'll never forget what Elway's done for the game. But it's time for him to move on if the Broncos want to get back to the Superbowl.
