Summertime in Laramie is one of the most enjoyable times of the year, but there are hazards, particularly those pesky mosquitoes or even this summer, smoke from nearby wildfires.
It’s a classic “You say tomato, I say tomato” situation. Luciano’s is a local restaurant with a name pronounced differently by many people Laramie residents.
A few weeks ago, during the public hearings on liquor permits in Laramie, we learned that the owners of Luciano’s Italian Restaurant were considering relocating the establishment to the old Winger’s location on Grand Avenue.
Southeast Wyoming has already seen its share of wildfires, or at least their smoke, over the past month. Dry conditions and gusty winds already make the fire danger higher than many other regions, but throw in the fuel of beetle killed trees and it certainly seems as though southeast Wyoming is ripe for fires to sweep across the land.
Nature can paint such a pretty picture in Laramie and the surrounding area. The scenic beauty is certainly considered a big draw to the town and valley. With the Laramie Range, the Snowy Range and plenty of outdoor activities, picture taking can become a quick hobby or profession.
With kids out of school on summer vacation and weather seemingly getting nicer and nicer, the urge to spend time outside gets stronger everyday. Whether it’s spending some time swimming or maybe making a quick escape outside of town, the outside provides a great temptation for many people sitting at work.
Technically speaking, it is still spring, but with the numerous storms we’ve seen in the area over the last few weeks, it feels as though we are in the midst of a massive summer storm season. Not long ago, a quarter-mile tornado struck the Wheatland area, injuring one, and causing massive damage in its wake. Also in the Wheatland area recently, there have been wildfires near Laramie Peak and near Guernsey State Park.
Taking a pet with you on vacation can be a challenge. Just ask Mitt Romney, who still gets grief about the time he strapped his Irish Setter — who was suffering from diarrhea — to the roof of his car during a family trip in 1983. Nevertheless, it seems that most pet owners still take their favorite furball on vacation with them.
