Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso are both in support of proposed legislation that would allow federal money that has not used by states to go towards decreasing the National debt.

The bill would require the federal government to send all unused grant and stimulus money returned by states back to the Department of Treasury. The Department of Treasury would then use that money to reduce national debt.

As of now, money sent back by states are reallocated to other states and various programs. The main sponsor of the bill is Florida's Republic Senator Marco Rubio. The bill has now been sent to the Senate Appropriations Committee for referral.
