At least one change occurs in each classification of the latest WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Girls Basketball Poll released on Thursday.

The No. 1 ranked teams of Cheyenne Central, Douglas, Wyoming Indian, and Cokeville remain in their position. There are two new teams to this week’s poll. Those new teams are Riverton and Kaycee.

In Class 4A, the Indian received all but two first-place votes. Cheyenne East, Thunder Basin, and Green River all hold in the two, three, and four spots. Those three picked up a majority of the votes for those positions in the rankings. After being out of the top five for a couple of weeks, the Riverton Wolverines return to the poll at No. 5. That pushes Natrona County out, but the Fillies were one of five teams that received votes this week. The big games this weekend in Class 4A have No. 1 Cheyenne Central and No. 2 Cheyenne East visiting third-ranked Thunder Basin on Friday night and Saturday morning. Also, the fifth-ranked Riverton Wolverines are at No. 4 Green River on Friday night.

The Douglas Bearcats have held the No. 1 spot in the 3A rankings all season and by a unanimous vote. This week is no different in that regard. There is a change in the order of the next three teams. Worland moves up to second, while Lander climbs to third. That drops Mountain View down to No. 4. Lyman holds in the fifth position. Five other teams picked up votes this week. The battle in the Bridger Valley between the rival fourth-ranked Buffaloes and fifth-ranked Eagles is on Friday night. The Warriors and Tigers both face road games on Friday against teams that received votes. Check the girls’ basketball scoreboard for details.

Class 2A has the smallest change. Wyoming Indian is a unanimous pick for No. 1. The Chiefs garnered all 11 first-place tallies. Even after a loss at Wyoming Indian last week, Rocky Mountain breaks a tie for second with Pine Bluffs. The Grizzlies impressed enough voters to stay alone in second. That drops the Hornets to No. 3. Moorcroft and Southeast hold onto their spots at four and five. Wind River is the only other team that received votes. Fifth-ranked Southeast is at third-ranked Pine Bluffs on Friday night in the only ranked match-up of the weekend.

The Panthers are still No. 1 in Class 1A. Cokeville is a unanimous choice for the top spot. The next two teams each move up one spot in the balloting. Upton is now second followed by Saratoga in third. H.E.M. falls to fourth after their second loss of the season. Kaycee is back in the top five at No. 5 Four more teams picked up votes this week. The only meeting between ranked teams this weekend is a battle of the Panthers. No. 3 Saratoga is at top-ranked Cokeville on Saturday.
