Another week and it’s more of the same in the WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Girls Basketball Poll.

The No. 1 ranked teams remain the same with Cheyenne East, Douglas, Wyoming Indian, and Cokeville on top. The Bearcats and Panthers remain unanimous choices in Classes 3A and 1A, respectively.

There are two new teams in the rankings, in Class 4A and 1A, while the other two classes are pretty much the same.

The Thunderbirds received all but two first-place votes in the 4A poll. Cheyenne East is on top for the fourth straight week. Cheyenne Central remains in second for third consecutive balloting. Both the Thunderbirds and Indians opened conference play with victories on the road Wednesday night. Thunder Basin earned the other two first-place votes. The Bolts remain third. The Natrona County Fillies, who are off to an 8-1 start, hold in fourth. NC visits Thunder Basin on Saturday. Off to a 9-3 start, their best in several years, the Riverton Wolverines make their debut at No. 5. They go on the road to Rock Springs and then host Kelly Walsh in conference play this weekend. Riverton is already 1-0 in the Northwest Quadrant.

Class 3A remains nearly the same as a week ago. The lone difference is there’s no tie for fifth. Douglas garnered all 18 first-place votes to stay No. 1. Despite a loss to a Class 4A team on the road last week, Mountain View remains second and was only two votes shy of being a unanimous pick for that spot. Lander holds third, but by only three points over Worland. Both those teams lost to Wyoming Indian in the Big Horn Basin Classic, but the Warriors impressed nearly enough voters by reaching the title game that they’ve closed the margin. Lyman is alone at No. 5 this week. There are no ranked match-ups this week in conference play, but the Eagles face the team they were tied with last week, Pinedale, on Saturday.

Not a lot of votes came in the two lower classifications. The 2A girls’ division is the same top five as a week ago. Wyoming Indian won the Big Horn Basin Classic, but almost lost the top spot. Their margin is down to three points over Pine Bluffs, who sits at No. 2 again. Rocky Mountain, Southeast, and Wind River round out the top five for the fourth straight balloting. On Saturday, the top-ranked Chiefs visit the fifth-ranked Cougars in Pavillion.

The Cokeville Panthers continue their reign in the Class 1A girls’ poll. The top-ranked Panthers have a road trip to Carbon County this weekend to face Saratoga and Encampment. H.E.M. is still a solid pick at No. 2. The voting closed before the Miners fell at Rock River on Tuesday night. Upton holds in third, but the Bobcats margin is down to six points over Little Snake River. The Rattlers stay at No. 4. The Kaycee Buckaroos make their debut in the 1A poll. They’ve received votes in most of the rankings but finally earned enough to crack the top five. The Buckaroos will host No. 3 Upton in the lone ranked match-up this weekend. The game is on Saturday.
