RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — A Wyoming city will now allow people to set off fireworks two days a year, on New Year's Eve and the Fourth of July.

The Riverton City Council recently approved the change unanimously.

The change comes as many communities in Wyoming look to regulate fireworks, especially at times when the risk of wildfires is high.

The city previously prohibited using or selling fireworks within the city limits at any time of year.

The new ordinance allows fireworks from 5 p.m. Dec. 31 to 12:30 a.m. Jan 1 and from 6-11:45 p.m. July 4. Only certain fireworks are allowed and none may be set off on city or school district property without permission.

People who set off fireworks must clean up any debris left behind.
