Raiders Beat Chiefs on Final Play, 31-30
Derek Carr threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree on the game's final play, and the Raiders upset the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-30, in Oakland on Thursday night. The wild prime time game saw seven lead changes, culminating in a dramatic final series that saw three penalties called inside the 10-yard line with less than 10 seconds to play.
Trailing 30-24, the Raiders began their game-winning drive at their own 15-yard line with 2:25 to play. Carr hooked up with Amari Cooper (39 yards) and Jared Cook (13 yards) on key passes that kept the drive alive.
It looked like Oakland (3-4) had gone ahead when Carr hit Cook from 29 yards out for a presumed score with 18 seconds to play, but a replay review gave the Raiders the ball inches from the goal line and ran 10 seconds off the clock.
Carr then connected with Crabtree for a touchdown with 3 seconds left, but the receiver was called for a pass interference penalty. Officials made defensive holding calls on Kansas City defenders Ron Parker and Eric Murray on subsequent plays, setting up Carr's game-winning toss to Crabtree with no time left. Giorgio Tavecchio's extra-point gave Oakland the win.
Carr finished 29-of-52 passing for 417 yards and three touchdowns. Cooper caught 11 passes for 210 yards and two scores.
Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch was ejected in the second quarter when he shoved an official during a melee between the teams at midfield after Chiefs defensive back Marcus Peters hit Carr late.
Alex Smith passed for 342 yards and three touchdowns for Kansas City (5-2). Tyreek Hill caught six passes for 125 yards and a score.
