COLLEGE STATION, Texas Colton Paller qualified for the 2021 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships by placing 10th out of 48 in the Discus on Friday afternoon at the 2021 NCAA West Prelims hosted by Texas A&M University, while two Cowboys and one Cowgirl competed on day three.

Paller hit his qualifying mark of 185-10 on his first throw in the third and final flight of the men’s Discus. Coming off of his 2021 Mountain West Championship in the event Paller is one of two Mountain West student athletes to qualify in the event.

This will be the Cowboy seniors first trip to the NCAA Championships after a season that saw him rise into the UW All-Time Top-10 List to No. 6 in school history.

“Colton had never been to the NCAA preliminary rounds before today. To come in ranked 15th and finish 10th in his first time at this competition is a huge accomplishment,” said UW assistant coach, Carrie Lane. “It is a tough meet with high stakes on the line. I’m so proud of how far he has come as a person and a competitor since he became a Cowboy in 2019.”

The 2021 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships are scheduled for June 9-12 and will be held in Eugene, Ore.

William Nolan competed in his second event of the week at this years prelims. After going in the Long Jump on Wednesday, Nolan was back in action in the Triple Jump today. The Cowboy junior went 47-5 to finish in 46th place. Nolan was just one of 13 student athletes to qualify for both events this week.

Mary Carbee was up in the first flight of the Hammer Throw on Thursday, however due to a measuring system malfunction the first flight of the women's Hammer Throw was re-thrown on Friday morning.

Carbee went 165-6 to finish 46th in the event. Carbee qualified for her first NCAA West Prelims for her efforts this season which saw the Cowgirl sophomore vault to No. 7 on the UW All-Time Top-10 Event list.

Albert Steiner was slated to run the 3000M Steeplechase today, however weather postponed the event until Saturday with a time TBD. Steiner comes in to the event with the 33rd best time in the region.
