The honor of Mr. Basketball in Wyoming for 2019 was awarded to Cheyenne East standout Erik Oliver during the Wyoming-Montana All-Star basketball series.

Oliver won the Gatorade Wyoming Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year award earlier this year.

WyoPreps’ David Settle had an opportunity to visit with Erik recently in the video above. They talked about the Mr. Basketball honor, how it compares with winning Gatorade Player of the Year, playing in the all-star basketball series, plus reflecting on his career at Cheyenne East, and more.

As a senior, he averaged 19.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game during his senior season with the Thunderbirds. He also dished out 3.3 assists and snagged 1.4 steals per game, all while leading Cheyenne East to the Class 4A semifinals. The Thunderbirds finished 22-5 last season.

As a junior, Oliver averaged 20.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game and led Cheyenne East to a 20-9 record. He averaged 17.1 points per game as a sophomore and 9.4 points per game as a freshman.

Oliver is a three-time Class 4A All-State selection by the Wyoming Coaches Association and a four-time All-Conference honoree. He was also the Class 4A East Conference Player of the Year in 2019. Oliver is Cheyenne East’s all-time leading scorer.
