The Laramie City Council had a busy night on Tuesday as many topics were discussed. The topics of discussion were that of flooding issues along the Laramie River and mosquito control. Another topic the council unanimously voted in agreement for was that of submitting a bid proposal to bring the 2013-14 Wyoming Senior Olympic Games to Laramie.

The Laramie River is above the 5 foot flood stage and last night Laramie Fire Department Chief and Albany County Emergency Management Director Dan Johnson updated the council on preparations for flooding.

Mild temperatures the rest of this week will hopefully curb mountain runoff. Much of the excess water has also been diverted to irrigation use. So far this season flood water levels have not reached last years numbers but water safety issues are being highly stressed.

Last night the council also touched on the issue of mosquito control throughout the city. This time of year along with above average water levels means that mosquitoes will be present. Keith Wardlaw, Laramie's mosquito control expert stated that mosquito fogging will likely begin in June. City crews have already begun implementing mosquito control efforts at the Monolith Ranch and the surrounding areas.

The other item councilors discussed was bringing the 2013-14 Senior Olympic Games to Laramie. Laramie hosts a number of events through the year such as the Wyoming Special Olympics, the MS Walk, as well as other state and school activities such as regional and state sporting events.

The Senior Olympic Games have been held in Laramie before and the Laramie City Council believes it would be a good move to bring the games to Laramie and say the idea has received support from many community groups.
