New York Men Face Felony Charges After K-9 Frosty’s Pot Bust

Two New York state residents arrested during a traffic stop on I-80 Wednesday morning now face felony drug charges in Albany County.

After more than 19 pounds of marijuana was allegedly found in their vehicle along with a small amount of suspected cocaine, 24-year-old Zachary Sasz of Waterford, N.Y. and 25-year-old Barry Connor of Clifton Park, N.Y. were arrested and booked into the Albany County Detention Center.

According to a press release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, both men are charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony possession with intent to deliver, and misdemeanor possession of cocaine.

If convicted, each man could face up to 21 years in prison and up to $21,000 in fines.

A trooper stopped a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan for speeding at 9:23 a.m. on Dec. 30 just west of Laramie on I-80 eastbound near mile post 288.  According to the press release, the trooper came to suspect that there was more to the situation than just a speeding violation.

Troopers put K-9 Frosty into action, and the dog reportedly alerted troopers that a controlled substance was somewhere in the Volkswagen.  A search allegedly revealed what the Patrol estimated to be $80,000 worth of marijuana along with less than one gram of suspected cocaine and over $1,300 in cash.

The Patrol believes that the marijuana may have come from Reno, N.V. and was destined for the Albany, N.Y. area.
