Medicine Bow National Forest Service Announces Avalanche Awareness Clinic

The Medicine Bow Routt National Forest Service has announced an avalanche awareness clinic offered this weekend in Laramie hosted by the Snowy Range Snowmobile Club.

The awareness clinic consist of two parts; a classroom session and a field session.

The Classroom session is designed to teach back country users and winter enthusiasts to identify avalanche terrain, travel techniques, snow pack conditions and safety factors. In the outdoor session, attendees will experience firsthand how to use beacons, learn shovel techniques and gauge snow pack conditions.

The classroom sessions are held at the Holiday Inn from Feb. 21 to Feb.22 at 6 p.m. The outdoor sessions are held from Feb. 22 to Feb. 23 at 8 a.m. at a to be determined location  in the Snowy Range. This weekend’s clinic is taught by experts from the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center in Jackson. The program is free and open to all winter enthusiast.
