Local Play Features Story Of Butch Cassidy In Laramie

The Unexpected Company Senior Theatre is bringing another play to the Gem City, and this one is set in Laramie in the 1800's.

"Looking for Leroy in Laramie or How Butch Cassidy Took Up Robbing Trains" is a semi-historical comedy complete with mistaken identities and romance set in Laramie City in 1894.

“The play is the story about how Butch Cassidy gets started robbing trains and how he tried to borrow—otherwise meaning take—people’s horses,” says Mary Joe Atherton, The Unexpected Company President. “It’s a love story, it’s a comedy, there’s mistaken identity and all-in-all a great deal of fun.”

The Unexpected Company is a senior theatre group formed ten years ago by eight senior women in the Laramie community. Seven of the eight founders are still involved.

“We mainly appeal to seniors because we often do plays that are relevant to senior’s lives, but this play appeals to all ages. It’s fun, it’s funny, there’s no bad language in it, and it shows how mistaken identities can work out for the best in the long run,” says Atherton

Local artist Cathi Carr-Lundfelt wrote the play and is directing it. She says that audience interaction is especially encouraged.

Performance dates are Thursday & Friday, February 26th and 27th, at 7 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, February 28th and March 1st, 3 pm, at the Alice Hardie Stevens Center at 603 Ivinson Avenue which is home to the Laramie Plains Museum.

Atherton says tickets are selling fast for the Saturday and Sunday shows, and those dates are expected to sell out in advance.

Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the museum, the Eppson Senior Center and First Interstate Bank. If shows do not sell out, tickets will be available at the door.
