The coronavirus pandemic has made a couple of local youth sports organizations make tough decisions. One is done, while the other is still waiting.

Laramie Youth Baseball (LYB) has officially canceled its normal 2020 season per an email from President Lindsey Moniz to KOWB. The decision was made by LYB at a Board of Directors meeting last week. They are going to refund all registration fees.

Moniz said they had to make a difficult choice.

“We had several discussions about a variety of scenarios. Ultimately, safety for all players is our priority. It was important we considered current recommendations related to social distancing, group gatherings, face masks, and disinfecting equipment. We also had to factor in field availability and the type of experience players would receive during these unprecedented times. Everyone is making tough decisions right now and it's unfortunate how things have changed this year as a result of COVID-19.”

Moniz added, “It’s our hope that as restrictions ease, we’ll be able to host some educational field clinics for any players who are interested after June 1.”

Meanwhile, Laramie Girls Softball has a goal of at least holding a condensed season from June 1 to June 26.

LGS, in an announcement over email, also admitted it’s a fluid situation and depends on new guidance from Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon, as well as coordination with local authorities and agencies, and access to fields.

“We are looking to get as creative as possible to get the girls some softball experience this summer. However, we will not proceed until we have taken everything into consideration to continue to ensure the safety of you and the public at large.”

If they can offer anything this year, Laramie Girls Softball will do so at no cost to participants. If you have a young girl age 6-18 that is interested in possibly playing softball this summer (depending on restrictions), you can register them by clicking here.

For anyone who had already registered for the 2020 Laramie league season, a full refund will be provided.

The LGS Board is scheduled to meet again on May 18 and will provide further info on May 19.
