Laramie Police Chief Dale Stalder says the gem city is feeling the effects of a national heroin epidemic, with at least two confirmed deaths attributed to heroin overdoses in the last three years.

"It's here. It's definitely the drug of choice right now," says Stalder. "It's definitely resurging, and I think that we're going to continue to feel those effects even on the local level here."

Stalder says he thinks Laramie has seen an increase in cases involving not only heroin, but also synthetic drugs.

"We just deal with it on a smaller level here than they do in big metropolitan areas," says Stalder.

Sean Flynn called attention to the issue in his January 2015 story "Mainline Street" published on GQ.com.
