Fly Fishing Team USA is hosting a regional qualifier in Laramie this weekend. It will take place at three venues Saturday and Sunday.

Twenty-four anglers will compete over the two days and will fish Twin Buttes Lake, Meeboer Lake and along the Laramie River. There’s a total of four sessions that are three hours apiece. Each session is held at a different venue to test an angler’s skills. The goal is simple, catch as many fish as possible.

These anglers are competing for individual medals and points. They accumulate these throughout the year, as anglers try to qualify for a spot in the 2018 National Championships and a shot at Fly Fishing Team USA.

Organizer Kirk Lewis provided more insight into how this event came to the Laramie area, the level of fishermen involved, how you can help as a volunteer and more.

Kirk is the primary contact if you’re interested in volunteering. You can contact him at 720-318-4063.

Fly Fishing Team USA is the official US National team sanctioned to compete each year at the world championships.
