A group of local residents has been holding peaceful demonstrations in Laramie since the evening of June 2.  Police Department officials have been in contact with the event organizers, who originally intended to hold similar demonstrations each evening last week. They were committed to conducting their demonstrations legally, peacefully, and with a minimum of public inconvenience.

On Sunday, June 7, the demonstrations spilled onto Grand Ave, at times blocking portions of, or all of the roadway. Laramie PD sent out a reminder for demonstrators to remain on the sidewalk and to not block the roadway.

On Wednesday, June 10, there were conflicts within the demonstration, which involved demonstrators and other people who hold different opinions. Laramie PD officers responded to those conflicts, which involved both verbal altercations and criminal behavior, and addressed them accordingly.

Laramie PD is again asking demonstrators to remain on the sidewalk and to use caution when crossing all crosswalks. This is for the safety of those involved, and that safety is jeopardized when people enter the busiest roadways in Laramie.

Laramie PD supports all citizen’s rights to peacefully demonstrate any cause. Demonstrations that have not gone through a permitting process must be held entirely on sidewalks. Laramie PD urges residents who are not involved in the demonstrations to respect all voiced viewpoints.

All residents should expect some minor delays around the walking demonstrations, which are scheduled to go from the Downtown Plaza at 1st & Grand, to 15th & Grand, then back to the Plaza.

Laramie PD will continue to evaluate circumstances and monitor the demonstrations.
