Cheyenne Boy Life-Flighted to Denver, Mom and Boyfriend Arrested
A Cheyenne mother and her boyfriend are behind bars after police say they found the woman's 2-year-old son nearly beaten to death.
Public Information Officer Alex Farkas says an officer was sent to a home in the 500 block of West 6th Street at about 12:36 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, to do a welfare check on the boy, after a concerned caller reported that the child was covered with bruises.
"Upon arrival, the officer found that the child had sustained severe life-threatening injuries which appeared to be the result of physical abuse," Farkas said in a news release Saturday night.
Farkas says the boy was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where he was initially assessed and then life-flighted to Children's Hospital Colorado where it was confirmed that he had multiple broken bones and internal injuries.
"The primary encounter diagnosis indicated non-accidental trauma to the child," said Farkas.
"During the investigation, detectives learned that the child was allegedly battered by his mother, Hannah Wingert, 20, of Cheyenne, and her boyfriend Joshua Moody, 21, of Cheyenne," she added.
On Friday, the couple was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center for attempted first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
