Investigators Wrap Up Large Wyoming Poaching Case

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — One of the largest poaching cases in Wyoming history is drawing to a close after more than three years of research, interviews, pleas and trials.

The case involved the illegal sale of landowner tags to out of state hunters by an outfitter in the Ten Sleep area of northern Wyoming.

The case spanned 12 states and involved nearly 20 people. All of the major players have been sentenced. They've been charged nearly $300,000 in fines and restitution and five of them are now felons.

The case file stands nearly two feet high.

Wildlife officials tell the Associated Press that they hope the case serves as a warning to those who think about bending rules.
