Two semi-trucks were involved in a crash on I-80 Monday morning causing a trailer to leak 1500 gallons of diesel fuel out onto the roadway.

The crash happened near milepost 323 on I-80 westbound around 5 a.m., according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

A Pilot Travel Center semi-truck was pulling two loaded tanker trailers containing diesel fuel westbound down the Summit of I-80 when it was rear-ended by a Food Services of America Inc. semi-truck. The back pup trailer was breached resulting in a massive leak of its contents.

"Thankfully a fire did not occur or this crash would have been quite severe," said a patrol spokesperson.

I-80 westbound coming into Laramie was closed for almost 2 hours while Albany County fire crews and the Wyoming Department of Transportation contained the spill. The remainder of the fuel in the trailer was being off-loaded to another semi-truck.

The driver of the Food Service truck had minor injuries but declined ambulance services.

The patrol reported the road re-opened around 8 a.m. Monday and that the crash is under investigation.
