BASIN, Wyo. (AP) — Crews with the Wyoming Department of Transportation have closed a 22-mile stretch of highway in the Bighorn Mountains for the winter.

The seasonal closure of U.S. 14-A, west of Burgess Junction, on Tuesday came a week earlier than normal.

Robin Nichols is area maintenance supervisor for the highway department in Basin. Nichols says there are already drifts five feet high along the highway.

The highway will open again next spring.
