The Beitel Elementary 1st graders will be making their mark in the Laramie community.

The "Handprints in Laramie 5K" will be happening at Washington Park this Saturday, April 20th. The Run/Walk event is the 4th annual 1st grade fundraiser from the kids at Beitel Elementary School in Laramie.

This year's proceeds will be given to support Jason's Friends Foundation. The Jason's Friends Foundation is a Wyoming based non-profit organization that helps families whose children are undergoing cancer treatment. According to the Event Donations Coordinator Karen Hepworth, the organization is currently serving 12 families in Cheyenne, three families in surrounding areas, and five families, including Beitel's own Brayde' Hamilton.

Recently, Hamilton was diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Hamilton participated in this event last year. Hepworth says this event is centered around Hamilton. The first graders from Beitel Elementary will leave their "handprints" somewhere in the Laramie community. They will do a community service project to be announced soon.

Registration for the event will begin on the morning of April 20th from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The Run/Walk around Washington Park will go from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The cost is $10.00 per runner or $30.00 for families of four or more. A T-Shirt for the event can be purchased at the park for $5.00. The prize and raffle drawing will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. where Donations Coordinator Karen Hepworth says they have been able to get various types of gifts and support from around the community. Hepworth added that the prizes include gifts certificates from Chilis, Jeffrey's Bistro, Nail & Spa, Laramie Recreation Center, and much more.

The event is April 20th, registration is available at Washington Park beginning at 7:30 a.m. For more information on the event and sponsorship opportunities you can call (307) 721-4436.
