Everything Wyoming Fans Need To Know About Wofford College
Like most Wyoming football fans, when I saw Wofford on the schedule, I said, "who"? Here's everything you need to know about the Pokes next opponent.
Wofford is a private school in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Founded in 1854, it's one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the deep south. Their football program is also storied with a rich tradition. Since joining the Southern Conference in 1996, the Terriers have won five conference titles. Wofford is best known as the summer home of the Carolina Panthers, who have held training camp at the college for the past 16 years.
One of Wofford's most notable alumni was a familiar foe for Wyoming over the years. Longtime Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry played at Wofford and began his Hall of Fame coaching career there. Former Baltimore Colts wide receiver and Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson was DeBerry's teammate.
Coming off a 10-4 season, the defending Southern Conference champions are 2-0 coming into Saturday's game at War Memorial Stadium. Last week, the Terriers blew out VMI 59-14.
While they travel to Wyoming, the thoughts of Wofford players and coaches will be focused 1,600 miles away as their home state of South Carolina prepares for Hurricane Florence to make landfall.
