Epps and Wingard Highlight Wyoming’s 2019 NFL Class

The University of Wyoming will be well represented in the NFL again this year. Eight former Pokes made regular-season rosters and five more Wyoming alums may join them soon.

Rookie safeties Marcus Epps, a sixth-round draft pick by Minnesota, and Andrew Wingard, an undrafted free agent signed by Jacksonville, both survived the final round of cuts. They will join Atlanta Falcons running back Brian Hill, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Denver Broncos defensive tackle Mike Purcell, Jaguars safety Tashaun Gipson, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Mark Nzeocha, and Washington Redskins center Chase Rouiller.

Former Wyoming cornerback Rico Gafford, who signed with Oakland as an undrafted rookie free agent, didn't make the 53-man roster but earned a spot on the Raiders practice squad. Former Cowboys tight end Jacob Hollister will kick off his third NFL season on the Seatle Seahawks practice squad while former Wyoming defensive end Eddie Yarbrough was named to the Buffalo Bills practice squad.

Two other undrafted rookies from Wyoming, tight end Austin Fort and defensive tackle Carl Granderson will open the season on injured reserve for the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints.

Former Wyoming wide receiver Tanner Gentry may also get another chance in the NFL this season. After making the Chicago Bears roster as an undrafted free agent rookie in 2017, Gentry spent last season on the Bears practice squad and was among their final round of roster cuts last week.
